Born in a brothel in Corvis to a common whore, Alayna Smythe grew up determined not to be like her mother or the rest of the women she grew up around. Left to her own devices, she grew up on the mean streets of Corvis, recruiting her own gang of homeless girls and whipping them into such fearsome figures that even older boys would give them a wide birth. However, she has always believed that she was destined for greater things, and longed to leave the confines of Corvis. One day, seeing a parade of soldiers marching down the streets, she joined up, realizing that the Cygaran army would be as good a chance as any to leave the streets and see the world. Although she has shown great bravery and leadership abilities, Alayna has never been promoted the trenchers, because of her trouble with authority and lack of good breeding. However, once he discovered that she was his bastard daughter, Lord Randall wasted no time requesting her transfer into his unit, and the two have gotten along famously. As one of Lord Randall’s two reocognized ‘heirs’ the Daria family has tried their best to tame the wild women, to little avail. They have, however, managed to secure her a betrothal to an old family, hoping that it may tempt her to settle down and have children. Alayna has secretly scoffed at the idea of being betrothed to any sort of noble ponce born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but has publicly gone along with the idea so that the family would stop pestering Lord Randall and herself with their constant matchmaking proposals and parading of potential suitors.
